Meet Katie

I'm delighted that you're here!

My passions lay at the intersections of spirituality, social justice, and the arts. Born in the Philadelphia suburbs, I earned a Bachelor of Music in musical theatre with a writing minor from The Catholic University of America. A proud former Jesuit Volunteer, I hold a Master of Divinity from Loyola University Chicago and have worked as a high school campus and youth minister and theology teacher in Chicago for 15 years.

I collaborate with faith-justice communities as a singer, writer, presenter, and retreat leader. Certified by the Midwest Jesuits, I am grateful for the privilege of accompanying people in spiritual direction and in St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises. I love singing as a cantor and choir member at my parish, Ascension and St. Edmund in Oak Park.

Alongside my students and colleagues, I have been shaped by numerous service immersion and pilgrimage experiences, including the Camino de Santiago, a Footsteps of Ignatius pilgrimage, and the Kino Border Initiative. My most powerful musical memory so far is singing in the chorus of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin.

My home is with my partner Kevin—also a Catholic school teacher—and our sweet toddler and rambunctious rescue pup.

Spiritual Direction/Companioning

Spiritual directors/companions offer spaces of listening, supporting seekers hoping to connect more authentically with God/The Divine, others, and themselves. Spiritual direction encourages attentiveness and discernment as people seek to understand their experiences, relationships, and decisions within the context of spirituality. Different from talk therapy and coaching, spiritual direction's roots and aims lay in the Love of God.

am grateful to accompany adults and teens in monthly spiritual direction sessionsWhile I am Catholic and proud to have been trained in the Ignatian tradition, spiritual direction is not exclusive to Christianity. It also has been a joy and honor for me to walk with folks for whom religion and church are complicated. All are welcome!

Please feel free to reach out to schedule a free introductory session! I also have availability for the 19th Annotation Retreat.

Retreats &
Days of Reflection

Interested in hosting a retreat or morning/evening of reflection at your parish or school, or with a spirituality group? Let me know what you're hoping for, and I'd bet we can dream up something together!

I have years of experience designing, updating, and facilitating both preached and silent retreats and reflection experiences. Favorite retreats/practices include, but are not limited to: Kairos, voices of women, social justice, arts, nature/eco-spirituality, Ignatian spirituality, Scripture, and centering prayer.

Hoping for meaningful music at a service or event, but not sure where to begin?

I have vast experience as a liturgical musician, having served as a cantor and choir member for most of my life, as well as a music consultant for weddings and funerals. From Catholic Worker houses to cathedrals, I am comfortable in an array of worship spaces.

I also have been performing musical theater and the music of singer-songwriters and rock, folk, pop, blues, jazz, and R&B artists since childhood.

I have availability for weddings, funerals, and special events in the year ahead!

Testimonials

"Katie Davis-Crowder's voice has been a powerful gift to so many parts of our parish community.  Whether with our initiation ministry, the parents and guardians of our family religious education, or our young adult community, Katie teaches and engages our members in a way that gently yet boldly invites them to what St. Ignatius would call the 'magis' ... the more.  She inspires those new to the faith as well as those who have been life-long believers to journey deeper into friendship with Christ and life in and with Christ's Body, the church."

— Keara Ette, MDiv, Director of Ministries, Old St. Patrick's Church, Chicago
